Counted cross-stitch is a needlecraft usually done on an evenweave fabric like Aida cloth or linen. To create the design, you follow a chart by creating a cross-stitch (x) of floss that corresponds to the appropriate color symbol on the design chart. Most cross-stitch is 14 (stitches) to the inch, worked up with two strands of embroidery floss. Embroidery floss is 6 strands and you separate them to get 3 lots of 2 strands from one length of embroidery floss. |

On the first washing, you must set the dyes in the floss by soaking the project in cold water with mild dish liquid (Joy or Ivory – do not use fine washables detergent) and vinegar. Use 1 ½ cups of vinegar for large projects, and ½ cup for smaller projects. |

We recommend first trying to simply soak the project in cold water, mild dish liquid and vinegar (Use a mild soap like Joy or Ivory, and 1 ½ cups of vinegar for large projects. ½ cup for smaller project.) Freshen the mixture periodically. If that does not work, you can try a stain stick, but avoid anything that is detergent based. |

The 1st column is for the type of stitch. The 2nd column is the symbol for the individual colors. The 3rd column is the number of strands to be used in stitching the design. The 4th column is the color name. (Please be advised that the color name is specific to your kit. You may use the same color in another kit and it will be named something different.) The 5th column shows the Bucilla Floss Color Number. The 6th column shows the number of yards your kit should contain of each color. (Please be advised that your kit may be sent 2-yard strands of floss. So if your kit calls for 4 yards of a certain color, you may have 2 long strings that equal that 4 yards.) The 7th column shows the color name in French and Spanish for our International Consumers. |
